The owners of Doukénie, George and Nicki Bazaco, have a family of Greek heritage. Doukénie is a Greek woman’s first name meaning “Duchess” in English. Doukénie was George’s grandmother, and she was the one who convinced him to plant grapes on the farm that he and Nicki bought in 1983. The first block of vines was planted in 1985.
